Dawn of the Space Age

Sky Quest

From the launch of Sputnik to the magnificent lunar landings and beyond!

We cover the great race between the Soviet Union and the United States to see who would be first on the Moon.

Be immersed and overwhelmed with this most accurate and beautiful reconstruction of our first steps into space. Who were these people who risked their lives to win the race? Witness their drive, their passion, and their perseverance to explore, in Dawn of the Space Age.

Come along with a young woman on her personal quest to find a special place in the night sky, from her childhood adventures on Mars (via a cardboard rocket), to the discovery of her "birthday star" that led her to become an astronomer and build a mountain observatory to further her lifelong fascination with the heavens. She shares her telescope views of the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn with us, helps us find stars and constellations, and shows us how everyone, even people in big cities, can enjoy the beauty of the night sky.

Black Holes

Cosmic Journey

Black Holes takes you on a journey through one of the most mystifying, awe-inspiring, phenomena in the universe: a black hole. Where do they come from? Where do they go? How do we find them? Is there one on Earth's horizon?

We invite you to join us in exploring the science and mystery of Black Holes.

Take a tour of the cosmos with astrophysicist Dr. Stacy Palen. The show begins here on Earth, and then shifts to the most distant reaches of the Universe, as revealed by WMAP. As we travel forward in time to the Solar System, NASA’s great observatories reveal the more local Universe, in all its astonishing beauty. This leisurely cruise through space and time is sure to please!

Contains elements of many state astronomy core curriculum requirements, including characteristics of the planets, the life cycle of stars, and the size and contents of the Universe.
