International Research Opportunities

  • DOE/INFN Summer Exchange Program for 2008, 7th Edition
The US Department of Energy (DoE) and the National Institute for Nuclear Physics - Italy (INFN) announce the 2008 edition of the Summer Exchange Program, dedicated to the exchange of US and Italian students in science and engineering. INFN, one of the leading organization worldwide promoting basic scientific reasearch, is involved with cutting-edge activities in all major INFN-DoE areas of interest: Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics, Nuclear Physics, Theoretical Physics and Detector Physics (see http://www.infn.it/brochure/ing/). The present call for applications is addressed to US students who are willing to join a INFN research team operating in Italy, for approximately 10 weeks starting anytime between June 1st and November 30th, 2008 . Positions are available at labs in Genova, Frascati, Milano, Roma, and a few other sites. Further information can be found at http://www.infn.it/summer_student/DOE_INFN.php
The deadline for application is April 20th.

  • DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE)
RISE gives students in the fields of biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, and physics the chance to spend a summer working on important research projects. All participants receive stipends from DAAD, and partner universities and research institutions provide housing assistance. With the RISE program, DAAD also supports the work of German PhD students by matching them with highly-qualified undergraduates who function as research assistants for the summer. DAAD will provide a monthly scholarship of € 615 for a period of 6 weeks to 3 months between June and August 2005. The award also includes health insurance, as well as an accident and personal/private liability insurance. The host institution will support the search for reasonably-priced housing for the duration of the internship. More information is available at http://www.daad.de/rise/en/. The deadline for application is January 31, 2008.

  • DAAD Undergraduate Scholarship
DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships fund study, senior thesis research and/or internship in Germany. The goal of this program is to support study abroad in Germany and at German universities. The scholarship funds study in Germany for a 4-10 month period during the German academic year. Recipients will be awarded a monthly stipend of approximately € 615, plus additional funds to help defray travel and research expenses as well as health insurance. Scholarships are available either as part of an organized study abroad program or as part of an individual, student-designed study abroad semester or year. More information is available at http://www.daad.org/?p=undergrad. The deadline for application is January 31, 2008.

  • IAESTE Placement Program
The IAESTE Placement Program matches U.S. university students majoring in technical fields with paid internships abroad. Positions are available in industry, research institutes and universities, consulting firms, labs, and other work environments. Most placements are for 8-12 weeks during the summer, but fall and longer-term placements are also available. Best of all, most technical students in the United States are eligible to apply! The online application for the 2008 program year opens September 1, 2007 and closes January 10, 2008. More information is available at http://www.iaesteunitedstates.org/.

Students interested in any of these international research opportunities should discuss them with Professor Volker Crede (206 KEN, 4-2423, vcrede@mailer.fsu.edu).
