College Physics A  (PHY 2053C)
Fall 2004: Course Description

       This course is the first in a two-semester sequence. It is intended to provide a general knowledge of physics relating to mechanics, fluids, heat, thermodynamics, vibrations and waves for nonphysical science majors. The level of mathematical skills necessary to complete this course is a strong proficiency with algebra (especially word problems) and trigonometric functions. Calculus is not required.

Textbook:           Douglas C. Giancoli, Physics, 6th edition, Prentice-Hall
                               ISBN 0-13-060620-0 or ISBN 0-13-035256-X
                               (NOTE: This is a new edition of the text and is different
                               from that currently used by the PHY2054c course!!!)

Credit:                 4 hours

Prerequisite:      MAC 1140 and 1113 with a grade of "C" or better; or
                              appropriate score on a mathematics placement examination.

Times:                10:10 - 11:00 MWF in UPL 101 and one 3 hr Lab session
                              in UPL 107 or 109 (either Tu or Th).
