Features of a Black Hole

Caption: A black hole forms when an object collapses to a small size (perhaps to a singularity) and the escape velocity in its neighborhood is so great that light cannot escape. The boundary of this region is called the event horizon because any event that occurs inside is invisible to outside observers. The radius of the region is RS, the Schwarzschild radius.
