Headquarters Tent

Information Tent   The main information center and the "take off point" for all tours. The Headquarters Tent is the best place to start your physics fun!

Planetarium Show: "Dawn of the Space Age."

Alexei Leonov
The planetarium show this year is "Dawn of the Space Age."

From the launch of the first artificial satellite sputnik, to the magnificent lunar landings and privately operated space flights.
Be immersed and overwhelmed with this most accurate historic reconstruction of Man’s first steps into space. Who were these Men and Women that took part in these death defying endeavors? Witness their drive, their passion, and their perseverance to explore, in “Dawn of the Space Age”.

Multimedia Presentations and Film Shows

Special twenty minute talks (with demonstrations) will be presented in the Room 101 Theater, Richards Building. These talks were chosen for widespread public interest and designed to be entertaining as well as informative.
The title and times of these talks are:

The Chemical "Medicine" Show

Images from Space - Hubble Space Telescope

Physics of Sports

In addition, selected science films will be shown between presentations.
The title and times of these shows are:

The Universe   Roller Casters   Elegant Universe

Paper Airplane Contest

Information Tent   Experience the physics of flight!
Look for the paper-folding table near the Headquarters Tent.

Hands-On Experiments and Demonstrations

Exciting hand-on experiments and demonstrations are available all day in the rooms of Richards Building

Tours of Research Facilities

Guided tours around the Physics Department research facilities will be available all day on a regular basis. The "take off point" for all tours will be the Headquarters Tent.

Condensed Matter Physics Group

This research group, which includes the Center for Materials Research and Technology (MARTECH), is active in a number of areas such as high Tc superconductivity, metal clusters, surface physics and liquid crystals

The Superconducting LINAC Laboratory

The Superconducting Linear Accelerator Facility is used to perform fore-front research studying the behavior and response of the atomic nucleus to many varied and extreme conditions. See how we can make nuclei spin at a rate of two hundred, million, million, million revolutions per second!

LEGO mechanics

Explore mechanics and other areas of physics in the colorful world of LEGO.

Space Warper

Explore the Coriolis force while riding the Space Warper. The Coriolis force is responsible for rotation of hurricanes and other weather systems.
