Dr. Shahid Shaheen

Associate Professor, Ph.D., Ruhr-Bochum University, 1985

Dr Shaheen received his Dr. Rer. Nat. in Experimental Physics from Ruhr Universität, Germany in 1985. Was a postdoctoral research associate at Rutgers University (1986-1988) before joining the faculty at Florida State University in 1988.

His research interests include magnetism, superconductivity, physics of f-electron systems, material science and sensor technology. Current research efforts focus on deposition of thin films of oriented rare-earth based permanent magnets, ferrites, and giant magnetoresistance materials using magnetron sputtering and LASER ablation techniques. The objectives are to study and demonstrate the feasibility of field biasing of magnetoresistive circuits by permanent magnet films for applications in sensor technology. Current funding is through ONR.
