Research > X-Ray Scattering

With the Institute of Molecular Biophysics at FSU we will be designing and building a new Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) beamline for biophysics/polymer characterization. Synchrotron x-ray scattering measurements are carried out at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island.

  • SAXS is a powerful tool in soft matter research as characteristic length-scales are larger than those typically probed by crystallography.
  • The new spectrometer will explore ordering and structure on length-scales from ~ 3 to 100nm.
  • With this instrument researchers from our group and other MARTECH members will investigate structure in macromolecular protein complexes, lipid bilayers, liquid crystal materials and polymer gels.
