Faculty Position: Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

The Florida State University (FSU) Physics Department invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in theoretical condensed matter physics, with starting date at the beginning of the Fall semester of 2018. We are seeking candidates who can strengthen and complement the existing capabilities of the theory group in research and teaching. The successful candidate is expected to lead an independent program within the broad areas of equilibrium and/or non-equilibrium phenomena in hard or soft condensed matter, reflecting recent advances in theoretical and computational techniques. We expect the candidate to strengthen ties to other programs in the department, including the diverse experimental programs in condensed matter and materials science at FSU.

The condensed matter theory group at FSU already benefits from a fruitful synergy with various experimental programs, both within the Department of Physics and at FSU’s National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab). The in-house research activities and the MagLab user programs cover essentially all areas of condensed matter physics. The synergy extends to various groups in other academic departments, including solid state chemistry, chemical and mechanical engineering, and molecular biophysics.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, a curriculum vitæ with a list of publications, a research plan, a teaching statement, and arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent (all in PDF format) to: cmtsearch@physics.fsu.edu. Review of applications will begin on November 27, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.

The Florida State University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and it especially encourages applications from women and members of minority groups.
